  • If the match is suspended due to safety concerns or arena issues, score and remaining time at the point of suspension shall be recorded and applied upon resumption.
From 10 seconds prior to the start signal until the end of the set, no person other than the Head Referee may interfere with or suspend the match.
8. Offense and Defense
1

Scoring

  • A Score is awarded when the Striker's drone ball passes completely through the opposing team's Goal Ring from front to back.
  • No Score shall be awarded if the team was offside, or if the drone ball fails to pass completely through the Goal Ring and bounces back out.
  • If the Striker passes through the opposing team's Goal Ring in the reverse direction (back to front), no Score is awarded, and the team is considered offside.
2

Offside

  • When the Striker passes through the opponent's Goal Ring in any direction, the team enters an offside state and cannot attempt to score while offside.
  • To clear offside: all players on the team must return behind the Center Line into their own half.

3

Defense

  • Players may pass through their own Goal Ring from front to back (intentionally or not).
  • Reverse entry into the Goal Ring (back to front) is NOT permitted under any circumstance.
  • If more than half of the drone ball enters from the front and comes back out, it is considered a reverse entry.
  • If a defender enters the Goal Ring from the back side, even slightly, it is also a reverse entry.
9. Penalty Kick

  • Knockout Stage: The team awarded the penalty kick may choose to forgo it. Revised Oct 2025
10. Winning Decisions
1

Winning Team

  • The team that scores more points in a set wins that set. Equal points = draw.
  • After up to three sets, the team that has won two sets first or has won more sets shall be declared the winner. Revised Oct 2025
  • A team with 1 win and 2 draws is recognized as the winner.
2

Draw and Shootout

  • If no team has won two sets after three sets, an Overtime Set may be conducted.
  • If the Overtime Set also ends without a winner, a Shootout is conducted.
  • Shootout: 3 players from each team. The Keeper may be freely designated.
  • If the Shootout ends in a draw, one additional player is added until a winner is determined.

  • When a player commits a serious act of unsportsmanlike behavior.

Class 20 — Rule Book

Official regulations for Dronesoccer Class 20 (20cm drone ball). Rules marked C20 DIFF differ from Class 40.

5th Revision · Oct 1, 2025
1. Skyfence
1

Size of the Skyfence C20 DIFF

  • Fixed size: 4 m wide × 8 m long × 3 m high.
  • A 2 m wide Pilot Area must be installed at both short sides.
Class 20 uses a fixed standard size, unlike Class 40 which has a range (5–10 m × 10–20 m × 4–5 m).
2

Walls of the Skyfence C20 DIFF

  • Walls must be enclosed with netting or wires to allow visibility from outside.
  • If netting: must not deflect more than 10 cm when a drone ball at 3 m/s hits it.
  • If wires: thickness 1–2 mm, spaced 10 cm apart.
3

Goal Ring Specification C20 DIFF

  • Circular, inner diameter 30 cm ± 1 cm, outer diameter 50 cm ± 1 cm, thickness 10 cm.
  • Positioned 1.5 m inward from the center of the short side.

  • Must be enclosed in a rounded exoskeleton.
  • Diameter: 20 cm ± 1 cm.

  • Players must be able to light up red and blue LEDs to distinguish their team's drone ball.
  • Attackers must attach a tag to be clearly distinguished from other players.
  • Drone balls may be painted, but not in red or blue colors that could distract from team distinctions.
  • Players from the same team must not paint their drone balls different colors.
Class 20 has simpler color rules than Class 40 — no position-specific LED colors are required beyond team identification (red/blue) and the Attacker tag.
3. Number of Players
1

Players C20 DIFF

  • Team members limited to 10, including no more than 3 coaches.
  • Each match is played with 5 players per team and 5 drone balls.

2

Substitution Procedure C20 DIFF

  • Substitution must be notified to the referee before the drone ball enters the Skyfence.

6–11

Assistant Referees, Game Rules, Offense, Penalty, Winning, Violations

The following sections are identical to Class 40 rules:

  • 6. Assistant Referees — Same classification, duties, and signals.
  • 7. Start and End of a Match — Same set structure, maintenance time, and suspension rules.
  • 8. Offense and Defense — Same scoring, offside, and defense rules. In Class 20, read "Striker" as "Attacker".
  • 9. Penalty Kick — Same conditions and structure. In Class 20 the duel is between an Attacker and a defender (any player may defend), not the Striker and Keeper.
  • 10. Winning Decisions — Same rules as Class 40. After up to three sets, the team that wins two sets first or wins more sets is the winner; a team with 1 win and 2 draws is also recognized as the winner. Revised Oct 2025
  • 11. Sanctions — Same warning, Set Loss, and Match Loss rules.
For full detail on these sections, refer to the Class 40 tab. Class 20 follows the same rules unless specifically noted otherwise in this tab.

Video Assistant Referee (VAR)

VAR protocol for FIDA Dronesoccer. Applies to Class 40. Class 20 follows the same VAR rules where applicable.

Added Oct 1, 2025
Purpose and System Configuration
1

Purpose of VAR

  • To enhance the authority of Dronesoccer regulations and the competition.
  • To maintain uniformity and consistency in referee decisions.
  • To minimize the impact of misjudgments on game results.
Actions to excessively assert one's own arguments beyond good-faith interpretation of the video are outside the scope of this protocol and are considered unsportsmanlike behavior.

Roles
3

Role of the VAR Referee

  • May independently access game footage and assist the Head Referee only in cases of a "clear and obvious error" or "serious missed incident."
  • May recommend a "review" to the Head Referee but cannot make the final decision.
  • Must inform referees if the VAR system becomes inoperable.
4

Role of the Head Referee

  • Must always make an initial decision first before using VAR.
  • An initial decision should not be overturned unless a video review reveals a "clear and obvious error."
  • Scope of VAR correction is limited to: Score decisions, penalty decisions, score corrections, and disciplinary matters.
  • Must confirm intention to use a challenge from both coaches' teams before declaring the end of a set.
Correction of a ruling via VAR must not affect other game situations besides scoring and penalties. It is not possible if it affects all subsequent game situations after a decision reversal.
Video Challenge
5

Challenge Procedure

  • All teams are granted a limited number of Video Challenge Tickets. Distinction must be made between group stage and knockout stage.
  • A coach may request VAR when they believe a decision is incorrect and can specify the situation or time (e.g., "the 3rd Score," "around 2 minutes 30 seconds").
  • If the decision is corrected, the number of issued tickets will not be deducted.
  • Timing for VAR request: from after the end-of-set whistle until before the final result of the set is announced.
  • The Head Referee must ask both coaches whether they wish to use a video challenge before announcing final results.
6

Grounds for Refusing a Challenge

  • When the reason for the challenge request is unclear.
  • When the content does not comply with VAR application regulations or is not applicable.
  • When the results of the VAR review will not affect the game.
Players and officials must not attempt to influence the review procedure. Unauthorized challenge requests are grounds for a warning.
7

VAR System Inoperable

  • The initial referee's decision and game result remain valid regardless of VAR operational status.
  • If the VAR system fails, the Head Referee may refuse valid challenge requests until operation resumes.
  • If a misjudgment cannot be confirmed through the VAR system even while operating smoothly, the initial decision shall be maintained.
